Police and forensics team investigate 'suspicious death' in Launceston

DETECTIVES have launched an investigation following the suspicious death of a man in Launceston.

Police and ambulance crews were called at around 1.10pm today [Thursday, March 9] after concerns were raised for the welfare of the man at an address in Town Mills Close, near Riverside, Newport.

On arrival they found the man, who is yet to be formally identified, deceased at the scene.

Police said a 27-year-old man remains in custody awaiting questioning.

Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances of the man’s death.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have information which may assist with the enquiry to contact them.

A cordon remains in place around the scene while a forensic examination is carried out and house-to-house enquiries are being conducted.

Anyone who may have information about the incident is asked to contact police by telephoning 101, quoting log 383 of 09/03/17.
