SEVENTEEN members from Bude Rats Running Club made the trip over to Bideford recently to take part in the town’s half marathon.
Starting and finishing on the quayside in the heart of the town, the Rats took their places on the start line in a record-breaking field of over 1400.
The race is organised by Bideford Amateur Athletics Club and the route take the runners out on the road to Torrington before heading back along the picturesque Tarka Trail.
The event has become a regular on the calendar for the Rats, and in past years many newer members have chosen this as the first half marathon they take on, with this year being no exception as the club continues to attract plenty of new runners of all abilities, something the club is very proud of.
Despite the blustery conditions and the ever threat of a downpour, all the Rats completed the 13.1-mile course safely. An excellent run from debutant Jeremy Brown, saw him come home as the first Rat of the day in one hour, 32 minutes and two sec, 33 seconds quicker than Harvey Richmond.
