SPORTING skills were on display recently as some local students got competitive thanks to an inter-school multi-skills festival in Launceston.
The event saw Key Stage 1 students formed into teams of ten and led by some of the school’s Year 6 pupils Tabby, Charlie, Henry, Olivia, Harriet and Sam, all of whom were nominated by Mrs Hudson to help run the event.
The morning put the pupil’s track and field skills to the test, with the event kicking off with a series of athletics-based stations, focusing on jumping, throwing, and running skills. Children worked hard to earn points for their school, displaying their ability through each activity.
After a well-earned refreshment break, the excitement continued with a series of Kwik Cricket matches. There were some incredible displays of striking, making the fielders work extra hard to keep their team in the competition. With every team taking their turn to bat, the points were then added to the scores from the morning’s athletics sessions.
Everyone enjoyed lunch together on the field before the final scores were tallied. Each team performed brilliantly showing their teamwork and sporting ability, but a special congratulations goes to Milton Abbott, who took home the trophy with the highest score of any team.
A spokesperson from St Josephs said: “A huge thank you again to our Year 6 leaders, whose enthusiasm and support made the day such a success. They did a fantastic job supporting the younger children, showing real leadership and setting a great example throughout the day. Well done to everyone involved!”
