Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police’s No Excuse Team, operating with the Road Police Team, announced on Twitter that they stopped two vehicles on the A30 near Launceston yesterday (Saturday) where the drivers were especially keen to avoid identification.

The two vehicles concerned, a motorhome and a VW Golf, were stopped in quick succession – and the driver of the motorhome was so desperate to avoid being fingerprinted that he ran away across four lanes of busy traffic. However, his efforts were to little avail as the police wryly remarked: “Shame he left his ID – he is disqualified.”

As for the driver of the VW Golf, she not only lied about her identity but it turned out she was wanted on two warrants and had no driving licence or insurance.

With their tweet yesterday evening, the police teams posted the above image of the Golf being loaded onto a lorry to be taken away, and with emoji faces covering the officers’ own identities.
