A new group has celebrated the success of its first event as it hopes to offer accessible social events for Bude residents.

Bee Team is a newly established group which hopes to provide accessible events in and around Bude.

Lorraine Corrigan-Turner, community partner at the Royal Mencap Society explained: “The Bee Team idea came about when Danielle hosted a disco for a supported living residence, it was then she realised the impact that the disco had had and how little social events were available for people with disabilities. Dannielle came to me with the idea, and Bee Team was born.

“Bee Team was awarded funding from a Mencap community funding scheme, and we received a generous donation from a local fund raiser, and with the help of our wonderful volunteers Steve, Izzy, Harry, Chris and myself and Gary from Our Bude – Mencap.”

The group is now celebrating the success of its first event, an accessible disco.

“We were taken aback by how many people came, and how far they had come too,” continued Lorraine. “The evening was a huge success, so many lovely comments, it was wonderful to see so many people with different disabilities enjoying being together, making new friends and dancing the night away.

“Everyone left with huge smiles on their faces, many saying thank you so much, so many stories and people wanting to know if there will be another disco or event soon. We soon realised how many people had been impacted by this event.

“It was a huge success and we cant wait for the next one. We have lots of ideas and offers coming in, so keeping a look out on our Facebook page for updates.”
