Following their successful production of ‘The Sound of Music’ in February 2020 just before the first lockdown, Hatherleigh Players are excited and pleased to be putting on a traditional pantomime again, ‘Puss in Boots’.

Long and serious discussions were had as to how they could make rehearsals and rehearsal space as safe as possible with the COVID variant affecting many people in the community.

Jane Fawcett said: “We wrote a COVID policy which ensured that each member had been vaccinated and was prepared to take lateral flow tests regularly. We were able to practice in the well-ventilated Community Centre and although one or two young players did get COVID we were able to rehearse regularly.”

The team have been directed by Cindy-Jane Squire who continues her series of highly successful shows. She has been assisted by her right hand women Donna Lewis and Jane Francis who can turn their hand to absolutely anything from choreography to cups of much needed coffee.

The musical side has been led by Christine Cleverdon. Steve Brock and Garry Bater have worked hard with the set design and construction. Mandy Wonnacott has again made some truly beautiful costumes along with the very talented Cindy.

Jane Fawcett said: “There are too many people who have contributed to putting this show on but each and every one of them is important and a huge thanks to them all.”

So the costumes are made, the lines have been learnt, the songs and dances have been practised, the stage has been set and now they await their audience!

Jane continued: “Do come and see this well-known tale played out again with a cast ranging in age from 10 to...well I’d better not say!”

They are delighted to be putting on four performances in February: Thursday, February 24; Friday, February 25; and Saturday, February 26.

Each performance will be in the evening starting at 7.30pm and the Saturday matinee performance is in the afternoon at 2pm.

Tickets are on sale from Hatherleigh Community Centre between 9am and noon from Monday to Thursday or call 01837 810239 — some may be available on the door.

Jane added: “This is a show for the whole family and we would love to see you. Oh yes we would!”
