THE university (UCAS) application process takes place between September and January.

From January, Year 13 students from Budehaven visit universities on applicant days and interviews. A decision about which conditional offer to accept must be made by early May. Students select a firm offer and a conditional offer.

Most students at Budehaven opt to attend university, although there are others who choose to apply for an apprenticeship, work or travel.

This year’s sixth form students are doing as well as ever, in a variety of subject areas:

Ryan Grigg has a conditional offer to attend Imperial College London to read Civil Engineering.

Catalina Gutierrez has accepted a conditional offer to read Chemical Engineering at The University of Surrey, while George Walter has a conditional offer to read Computing Science at The University of Sussex.

Chloe Haggarty has accepted a conditional offer to read Law and Criminology at The University of Cardiff. Meanwhile, Zoe Lincoln is hoping to venture to Falmouth University to read Photography.

Jacob Miller is also following a creative subject, also choosing to accept a conditional offer at Falmouth, to read Sustainable Product Design. In addition, Jack Cousins has an unconditional offer to read Illustration at Plymouth University. Coral Diffey has accepted to read Film, Photography and Media at The University of Leeds.

Zoology has proved a popular course this year and Freya Neve-O’Dwyer has opted to go to The University of Exeter. Josie Foster has also shown an interest in this field having offers to read Zoology at Exeter, Reading and Southampton but has chosen Biological Sciences instead at The University of Cardiff. Similarly, Sophie Wilson is hoping to attend The University of Birmingham to read Biochemistry.

Ellie Townsend and Charlotte Whitfield have both accepted conditional offers at The University of Cardiff. Ellie is intending to read English literature and Charlotte Psychology. Dillon Wilkinson has picked The University of Liverpool to read International Politics and Policy.

Ben Clark is hoping to attend King’s College London to read English Language and Linguistics and Psychology. Hannah O’Leary has a conditional offer to read Spanish and Portuguese at Bristol University.

Next year, Kieran Hammond is spending time in Europe and Canada learning to teach snowboarding and then he intends to go to Manchester Metropolitan University to read Coaching and Sport Development. Jose Whybrow is also taking a Gap Year to gain experience in the interior design field.

Year 13 students will soon be taking their exams and venturing away from Budehaven. However, it is only just beginning for Year 12, as they will now start to make their choices about their future. Websites such as UCAS and Unifrog offer impartial advice and guidance about future pathways, alongside continuous advice from tutors and the careers adviser at Budehaven.
