A MEMBER of the public was left with leg and facial injuries after an incident on the Camel Trail on Bank Holiday Monday
HM Coastguard Padstow were asked to assist after it was reported that a person was injured upon falling off of their bike at ‘The Quarry’, a section of the Camel Trail which passes through an old slate quarry on the Wadebridge to Padstow stretch of the multi-use trail.
It had transpired that the casualty had sustained leg and facial injuries after their fall, and at the time of the coastguard’s arrival were being attended to by an off-duty paramedic and a member of the public.
The coastguards assisted with providing first aid to the member of the public alongside the off-duty paramedic until colleagues from the South Western Ambulance Service Trust (SWAST) could arrive at the scene where pain relief was administered.
Upon being stabilised, the casualty was carried by the team assisting them to an ambulance where they were handed over to the care of the paramedics from SWAST at which point the coastguards were stood down.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard Padstow said: “The team was tasked to a casualty that had fallen off their bicycle on The Camel Trail.
“Once on scene the team found that the casualty had sustained leg and facial injuries. They were being attended to by an off-duty paramedic and a member of the public.
“The team followed our Casualty Care First Aid procedures and worked alongside the off-duty Paramedic until the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust Ambulance arrived.
“Paramedics administered pain relief and, once stabilised, the casualty was carried by the team and transferred in to the Ambulance.
“When the casualty was safely in the care of the paramedics, the team was stood down and returned to base.”
