PUPILS at Whitstone CP School were lucky enough to receive a visit from renowned author Billy Bob Buttons on Wednesday, January 17.
Billy Bob Buttons is the pen name of award-winning author Edward Trayer, who is responsible for the ‘Felicity Brady’ series and the ‘Gullfoss Legends’.
The children of Whitstone Primary School in Classes 2 and 3 welcomed the author to their morning literacy lessons.
He led workshops about creative writing, describing the method and the approach he takes to writing, freely offering advice to eager, aspiring authors, as well as signing copies of his books.
Edward also agreed to officially open the school’s new ‘Reading and Writing Hut’. Inspired by the building at his home in Great Missenden in which Roald Dahl created some of his most memorable characters, the reading and writing hut will be a special place where pupils can indulge in the pleasures of reading and writing stories.
Headteacher Paul Woolner said: “We are very grateful to Billy Bob for his charismatic talks and for his accepting our invitation to cut the ribbon on our reading and writing hut.
“We hope that it will be sanctuary for enthused readers and budding writers for years to come.”
Mr Woolner went on to express the school’s gratitude to the PTFA for helping to fund the hut and its appreciation of the contribution the parish council made in a grant from the Community Fund.
