The body of a man found in the River Torridge last week has been identified by Police.

Devon and Cornwall Police launched an appeal on March 29 to help identify a man in his 50s whose body had been found in the river at Bideford.

Police have now confirmed that the man has been identified and that his next of kin have been informed and are being supported.

The death is not believed to be suspicious.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police have identified the body of a man found in the River Torridge last week.

"It follows a media appeal issued on Wednesday 29 March, after the body of a man in his 50s was found in the River Torridge at Bideford.

"The man’s next of kin have informed and are being supported.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner."Detective Sergeant Ben Cartwright, who is leading the investigation, added: “We would like to thank the community for the assistance provided and the many lines of enquiry put forward, as the information we received helped us to identify the man.”
