Bude Art Society held its annual Golden Brush Award competition on the evening of March 7 in The Parkhouse Centre, Bude. The competition is for members only, they are given a theme earlier in the year to base their paintings on.

The theme this year was ‘Man made structures’, these are exhibited before the judge and he then chooses what he/she considers the winner. The judge this year was a local artist Steve Pinchess who has his own gallery in Queen St called ‘Stepping Stones’.

He said “I am blown away by the standard of work here, I am having difficulty choosing an overall winner.” He did come to a decision and chose Janet Grant seen here being presented with the trophy and a gold brush for her pastel painting of Tintagel Castle at night.
