BUDE Ladies Hockey and Football Teams competed for the Gosling Cup on Saturday, raising over £1,000 for Cancer Research UK in the process.

With the hockey girls wearing combat gear and the football ladies dressed as hippies, the two teams battled it out for forty minutes on the hockey pitch before moving over to the football field for a 40 minute match.

The Gosling Cup had been organised in memory of Sandra Gosling who sadly passed away last year. Sandra was a dedicated member of both clubs, playing and then umpiring for the hockey club and playing in goal for the football club. She was also at one time a member of the town's ladies rugby team.

With supporters cheering on both teams from the sidelines, the score at the end of the hockey match was 7-0 to the hockey team. The ladies then moved over to the football field, where the game finished 7-1 to the football team.

Having scored an 'away goal' thanks to Gemma Smith, the hockey team were victorious and were presented with the Gosling Cup at the Inn on the Green by Trevor Jennings of B&S Taxis, who sponsored the cup.

Steph Hayden was voted player of the match from the football team, with Tammy Snowsill receiving the accolade from the hockey team.

Following refreshments, kindly provided by Inn on the Green, a raffle was held and the winners of the 'guess the score' and 'guess when the goals will be scored' competitions were announced.

During the presentation of the cup, thanks were expressed to Inn on the Green for sponsoring the event and Trevor Jennings for sponsoring the cup. Thanks also went to the hockey umpires and football referee and linesman and everyone who supported the Gosling Cup and provided raffle prizes.

Finally Leanne Stanbury and her family were thanked for all their time and effort in helping to organise the competition, which raised over £1,000 for a very worthwhile cause.

Due to the success of the event, it is hoped to make the Gosling Cup an annual occurrence, with the possibility of including rugby next year.
