A college has been shortlisted among some of the country’s top educational establishments as part of the Independent Schools of the Year 2025 awards.

Shebbear College has announced this week that it has once again been shortlisted for the Independent Schools of the Year 2025 awards, in the category of Small Independent School of the Year. This marks the third consecutive year the school has received this prestigious recognition, having been named as a finalist in 2024.

The awards, run by Independent School Parent magazine, celebrate excellence across the UK’s independent education sector. Shebbear College’s continued recognition reflects its unwavering commitment to personalised learning, exceptional pastoral care, and a vibrant, inclusive community.

Head of school, Charlie Jenkins said: “We are absolutely delighted to be shortlisted once again. As a small school, we pride ourselves on knowing every pupil as an individual and creating an environment where every child can thrive. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm of our pupils, and the strength of our community.”

Dr Helen Wright, chair of the Independent Schools of the Year judging panel, said: “Reading through this year’s entries, the judges have been particularly struck by the resilience and determination shown by the UK independent schools’ sector in the face of unprecedented challenge to their existence.

“Meantime, globally, independent schools are facing up to political uncertainty with equal levels of fortitude. Independent schools across the world, it is clear, are working harder than ever to ensure that their students – and the whole community – will develop into well-rounded human global citizens who are able to make the most of their own skills, in order to contribute positively to humanity.”

The winners of the Independent Schools of the Year 2025 awards will be announced later this year.
