A CIVIC service was held in Launceston Town Square on Sunday, June 12, in remembrance of the Falklands War.

A second event was held two days later on Tuesday, June 14, to mark the actual 40th anniversary of the end of the conflict.

On the Sunday representatives came together, led by Parade Marshal Ed Wade-Hall, to pay their respects and lay wreaths at the foot of Launceston War Memorial.

There were a number of Falklands veterans present including those who served with the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, Army, Royal Marines and Merchant Navy.

It was an emotional service which recounted the events that lead to the Falklands War, before all heard the Kohima poem, the Last Post and a prayer from the Launceston branch of the Royal British Legion’s chaplain Rev Mary Williamson.

Following the service Mr Wade-Hall said: “Thank you to everyone who attended the Falklands 40th parade. It is great to see you all and the Falklands Flag flying from the castle.”
