A BIKE track adjacent to a primary school could become a new community hub if proposals are approved by Cornwall Council.

Stratton Primary School has unveiled plans for the erection of a community hub adjacent to the bike track, located on the school field.

They are proposing the installation of a pre-fabricated container unit clad in natural timber, which it says will ‘provide a flexible, functional space for the community to use.

It told Cornwall Council that it hopes the community hub will enable a range of activities and events to take place with emphasis on the encouragement of physical activity and social engagement, including organised cycling sessions and weekend events.

In the application documents, the proposals were expanded further, stating: “The existing community bike track, located to the west of Stratton Primary School, has been purposefully designed to cater for users of all ages and abilities, offering a range of difficulty levels that encourage participation from beginners through to more confident riders.

“The objective of this proposal is to introduce a community hub building that will serve both the bike track and the adjoining playing field, while more broadly supporting the community by encouraging healthy lifestyles, outdoor activity and social engagement. The hub will provide flexible indoor space suitable for small-scale community events and gatherings and will be open daily to offer facilities for those using the bike track and field — including visitors enjoying picnics and family days out.

“A central principle of the design is inclusivity: the building will be fully accessible, ensuring that people of all ages and physical abilities can use and enjoy the space with ease. Ongoing security and maintenance of the hub will be overseen by Stratton Primary School, ensuring it remains safe, welcoming and in good condition for community use.”

The plans are currently under consideration by Cornwall Council.
