A CORNISH veterinary nurse is set to take a leap of faith and jump out of a plane for a cause close to her heart.
The cause is one which is very special to her, with the hospital providing regular care to 12-year-old Emma Rowlands, who at just eight became seriously ill while on a skiing trip and was diagnosed with kidney failure.
Since then, Emma has undergone multiple procedures including kidney dialysis and an organ transplant after her mother donated one of her own kidneys.
The money Melissa will raise from the skydive will be donated to the Wallace & Gromit Grand Appeal, which is Bristol Children’s Hospital’s charity.
Melissa said: “Emma has faced more challenges than most people could possibly imagine, but despite everything she has been through, she shows courage, strength, and the most inspiring attitude.
“When I heard there was a skydive taking place in aid of the hospital, I wanted to do it to show my support for Emma and her family, and to raise money that will help other young patients. The hospital does such incredible work, and its care and treatment has made such a difference to Emma, and I want to thank everyone who has donated so far.
“Jumping out of a plane is quite a daunting thing to do and I have never done anything like this before. I’m really excited, though, and can’t wait for the big day.”
