A VEHICLE and fifteen hay bales were among the items destroyed in two seperate incidents attended by crews from Launceston Community Fire Station over the weekend.

In an incident on Sunday, July 13, fire crews from Launceston and Bodmin Community Fire Stations were called to reports of a vehicle fire on the eastbound carriageway of the A30 at Bolventor.

The internal combustion powered vehicle involved was left destroyed after the fire, with one lane closed while recovery work took place to remove the charred remnants of the vehicle from the scene.

A spokesperson for Launceston Community Fire Station said: “One appliance from Launceston Community Fire Station was sent to a vehicle fire on the eastbound carriageway of the A30 near Bolventor. Bodmin Community Fire Station were already in attendance using two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets.

“A section of the A30 was restricted to one lane while recovery work took place.”

The incident came as one of a busy weekend for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, with another incident involving a field fire in Egloskerry among multiple incidents attended by fire crews.

The incident involved 15 hay bales on fire at a property in Egloskerry on the previous day, Saturday, July 12, with neighbouring properties being evacuated while crews from Launceston, Callington, Delabole, Liskeard and Wadebridge worked to contain the incident.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said at the time of the incident: “One fire appliance from Launceston, one fire appliance from Callington, one fire appliance from Delabole, a water carrier from Liskeard and a light off road pump from Wadebridge are in attendance at a fire involving a field containing approximately fifteen large hay bales.

Firefighters are preventing the fire spreading to two neighbouring properties, which have been evacuated as a precaution.”
