A FED UP district councillor has urged residents to join him in reporting as many potholes as possible to Devon County Council.
Cllr Nigel Kenneally, the Torridge District Councillor (Lib Dem) for the Milton and Tamarside ward, said that while he understands the funding challenges faced by Devon County Council, which is responsible for the maintenance of the area’s roads, he thought that residents deserved better.
The poor condition of roads has become something of a hot potato in recent months, after a succession of storms and a wet winter led to significant damage to many roads both in Devon and Cornwall.
Devon County Council’s road repair record came under significant criticism prior to the damage caused by the storm, with the government rating the authority as ‘amber’ in its traffic light reporting system.
As well as amber ratings for condition and best practice, it scored ‘red’ for the amount it spends on repairing its roads.
Cllr Kenneally told The Post: “I have once again reported the absolutely disgraceful state of the road to Chasty, and I would encourage all residents that use this poor excuse for a road to do likewise.
“It's easy to do, just go on the Devon County Council website and go to the report a pothole page. The people that live in this area really do deserve better.
“I completely get that Devon County Council are trying their hardest and that central government have reduced funding to local government for many years, but that doesn't help the residents that use this road daily.
“This road has been in a shocking state for many years and has only seen minimal repairs that quite frankly last no time at all.
“So I'm not mad with Devon County Council, just very disappointed! I encourage and urge residents to keep reporting any potholes they come across.”
