A PERSON was taken to hospital for an injury sustained while diving in a sea pool on the coast.

Emergency services including HM Coastguard Padstow and RNLI Padstow lifeguards were involved in the response after an incident at New Train Bay at Trevone during the daytime of August 23.

It is reported that the person sustained injuries while diving into the sea pool.

Also in attendance were a community first responder and paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, who attended to the casualty after initial assistance from the lifeguards and coastguards. A flank team from Newquay Coastguard search and rescue were also tasked to assist with the incident but were stood down while en route to the scene.

After being treated at the location of the incident by the emergency services, the casualty was then carried by stretcher to an awaiting ambulance, which then took them onwards towards the Royal Cornwall Hospital (also known as Treliske) near Truro.

The incident was one of several attended by the coastguard teams on the North Cornwall coast across a busy bank holiday weekend, with an incident later in the day between Trevone and Harlyn Bay attended to by the coastguards alongside Devon and Cornwall Police.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard Padstow said: “Tasking to assist RNLI Padstow Lifeguards with a casualty that had sustained injuries while diving in to the sea pool at New Train Bay.
