THE Bude and Stratton branch of the Royal British Legion intend to create a ‘Field of Remembrance’ on this the centenary year of the 1918 Armistice.

With the co-operation and involvement of Bude-Stratton Town Council, it will be situated in the Castle grounds clearly marked and easily accessible.

Small wooden crosses will be available to be marked with the name of a loved one.

These crosses will make up the Field of Remembrance and are available from the main Post Office and the Trading Post, both in Belle Vue.

The period of commemoration began on October 27 and will continue until November 12.

The crosses will be available for a suggested minimum donation of £2. Should anyone wish to retain the cross after the event they should make it known to the supplier.

A spokesperson for the event said: “This is not just in remembrance of WWI but all conflicts to date. It also includes all armed and civil forces, organisations and associations, no one will be forgotten.”

The villages of Marhamchurch and Kilkhampton are also getting involved with this project.

Marhamchurch field will be in the centre of the village, clearly marked and crosses will be available from the community shop.

Kilkhampton field will be inside the church lych-gate on the left, with crosses available from Gilbert & Vanstone and Premier Express.
