THE Rectory Farm and Tearooms at Morwenstow has won a gold award for the fourth year in succession at the Taste Of The West Awards 2016.

Judged anonymously on a large range of criteria including extent of local sourcing, quality and speed of service, quality of meal, the ambience of the establishment and value for the money, the tearooms continue to excel.

Owner Jill Savage who has been working at the tearooms now for over 30 years, was delighted with her and her staff’s achievements.

Jill said: “It means a lot to have been recognised again. We put a lot of hard work and pride into what we do to produce the best quality products possible. We try to use as much local produce as possible while nearly all of the items we sell are made from scratch here at the Rectory which is important.

“For example, we use the same recipe to make our scones now as my mother in-law (Vera) did when she started the tea rooms back in 1950 so it’s about keeping things local. We are of firm belief that when people come down to the Westcountry they want to taste Westcountry food so that’s what we do.”

That they most certainly do, this year’s gold award is their fourth in succession, while they have also won the “Tea Guild award of Excellence” from 2005 to 2013 and the Tripadvisor “Award of Excellence for 2014 amongst other things.

Also with the tearooms being just ten minutes off the famous North Cornish coastline, and in a 13th century farmhouse, they are extremely fortunate to have such an excellent setting.

Jill said: “We are really lucky that we have such a lovely building which helps to get people to keep coming back. Besides that and the fact that we make nearly all of our food ourselves, I am extremely fortunaate to have an excellent group of staff who provide a high class customer service whilst doing it with a smile on their face.

“At the end of the day that’s what it’s all about for us, creating high quality homemade food for people to enjoy, whilst doing it an effective but friendly way which makes the visitors feel valued.”
