THE mayor of Holsworthy has expressed his delight as the town lit up for Christmas.

At an event held on Saturday, November 29, the towns community came together to celebrate the start of the festive season in the town with a smorgasbord of entertainment and traders to get into the Christmas mood.

In attendance during parts of the event was a smattering of rain, although if it was the weather’s plan to ruin the event, it did not succeed as bright Christmas lights and a stage full of festive entertainment kept spirits high while drier skies did make its own appearances, as did Father Christmas.

Among the entertainment on offer were performances from Holsworthy’s children and an array of traditional music performed expertly by the Holsworthy Town Band.

For Cllr Jon Hutchings, a proud mayor of Holsworthy said he wished to thank all those who made the event a truly special start to the town’s festive season, in particular the volunteers, traders and entertainers.

He added: “A huge thank you! On Saturday evening we switched on our towns Christmas lights. At the start of the day i was thinking it was going to be a complete wash out with the rain! However as the skies turned blue and after a few downpours we were lucky to have a fairly dry evening, at least until we started to pack up! Some great entertainment on our stage from the children of Holsworthy and some more traditional music from the town band.

“The square was packed to welcome Father Christmas and to watch the actual switch on. So a huge thank you to all the volunteers, traders and entertainers who make it all happen. Finally thank you to everyone who came and supported the event even if the weather wasn't as good as it could have been.”
