STORY detectives, Jane Pugh and Anna Murphy have squirreled out snippets, facts and stories from Kilkhampton and the surrounding area to produce a unique theatre performance run through Carn to Cove.
'The Secret Six' will be held tonight (Thursday) at the DASCH Hall at Kilkhampton School, and is free to attend.
The performance has been organised and funded as part of a Heritage Lottery project based at the Castle Heritage Centre, Bude. The aim of the project has been to record parish histories across North Cornwall as experienced and told by the people who live there.
Through a number of small events such as this across North Cornwall parishes, people have shared many wonderful stories, brought in objects and photographs.
"Oral history projects help communicate the past to younger generations with a depth that books and pictures can find it hard to convey," said Clare Manning, Education and Lifelong Learning Officer at the Castle. "When talking to people, you get an amazing sense of just how fast our culture and lifestyles have changed within living memory. We have collected memories from those who can remember how changes in agriculture replaced working horses with tractors, and of when electricity was first installed in our homes and villages.
"Others share memories ranging from wartime experiences to childhoods completely devoid of the technology children use today. We hope to make contact with other people from North Cornwall who'd like to get involved with the project – either to help us collect stories or simply to share what they remember. People can even collect their own stories using simple equipment available to borrow from the Castle Heritage Centre."
