A SCHOOL in Launceston is celebrating after being recognised for its work in young people’s sports.

St Stephens Community Academy has achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2024/25 academic year. This is the third year in a row the school has achieved this fantastic recognition.

The School Games Mark is a government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and St Stephens has expressed its delight to have been recognised for its success.

Mrs Furber, executive headteacher at the school said: “With so many of our young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

“We are also immensely proud of all our pupils who play sport out of school and represent local and county teams. This year we once again have an amazing dancer competing on the world stage at the dance cup in Spain. She will be representing England at this prestigious event next week and we wish her the very best of luck.

“As part of our application, we were asked to fulfill criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

“A special thanks to all the sports groups that support our school especially Michelle Roberts and her team @ Arena Sports , Gary Jeffery and his team at Plymouth Argyle Football Club, Nick Matthews at Chance to Shine Cricket and the Plymouth Argyle Community Trust leads for the Time 2 Move programme that is run during the holidays on our school site.”
