STRATTON Primary School’s Film Club was invited to an Oscars style red carpet ceremony at the Leicester Square Odeon on Tuesday, March 15, for the national ‘Into Film’ awards.
Eight children from the school were selected to travel to London for the awards, and the club members were very excited to learn that they had been nominated for National Film Club of the Year.
Mr Phil Aldis, Stratton Primary School’s headteacher, explained what the children had to do to participate in the awards.
Firstly, with the help of the school’s film club leader, Chris Nichols, the club had to fill in a form for the club entries, where three schools were then nominated for the National Film Club of the Year award at the prestigious ceremony in London.
The club was nominated because of the range and variety of films the children watch. Afterwards, they write reviews of the films they have watched on the film club site.
The selected pupils set off at 6am from Stratton, and after a long journey and a quick visit to the Natural History Museum, they arrived at the Odeon.
They walked up the red carpet and began to glimpse the odd actor that they recognised, including Michael Sheen and Simon Pegg. They were sat in the front row and watched several awards being presented.
Then it was time for the Under 12 Film Club of the Year award.
The group was stunned when it was announced that Stratton School Film Club had won it.
The eight pupils went on stage with Mr Nichols and were presented with the award from Ed Skrein, who has performed in Game of Thrones and Deadpool.
Mr Aldis said: “It was very much like an Oscars ceremony, including an authentic red carpet, and two of the eight pupils were invited on stage to give a ‘thank you’ speech.”
Emilia Jose and Fern Paton made a wonderful thank you speech to a full Leicester Square Odeon, with more than 1,000 people watching.
Bea Barratt and Emilie Gale were then interviewed by the press.
The whole of Stratton Primary School is delighted with the success of the film club.
Congratulations to all involved!
