STAFF, residents and patients at a local care home are celebrating following some marathon magic from its deputy manager.
Kernow House Care Home in Launceston is celebrating the work of its deputy manager, Sarah Sharland, after she completed the London Marathon to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.
Sarah has been a keen runner since 2011 and always wanted to take on the London Marathon one day. She planned to do the distance virtually for the Foundation in 2022 but she contracted long-COVID and sadly her dream had to be shelved. Now that she is back to full fitness, she was finally able to take part in person and raise funds for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, which helps older people and those with disabilities stay connected with their local communities.
A tired and sore Sarah commented: “It was incredibly tough, I had my fair share of injury worries and it was such a hot day but it feels so good to have achieved my goal. Ever since I joined Barchester in 2010, I have always admired the work of the Foundation, I really like that the Foundation focuses on connecting people with their communities and enabling people to be active and engaged. I have raised over £1,250 so far which is fantastic and hopefully some more money will come in now that I have got over the finishing line!”
Leigh Stanley, general manager of Kernow House, said: “We already knew Sarah was an absolute superstar but this just confirms it. Everyone at Kernow House is delighted for Sarah, we all knew how much she wanted to do this and despite the heat she smashed it! Barchester’s Charitable Foundation is a great cause that helps many people in need stay active and connected, which is so worthwhile.”
