Academies from across Athena Learning Trust, based across the South West, are celebrating an outstanding set of SATs results.

In the first set of published SATs results since the pandemic, Year 6 students from the academy trust outperformed the national trend in many areas, particularly in reading, writing and maths.

An incredible 100% of Key Stage 2 pupils at Altarnun Primary School, in Launceston, achieved the expected levels of achievement in Reading, compared to 73% nationally. This was also the case for Egloskerry Primary School, where 73% of pupils reached the national levels in Writing and Maths, compared to 71% and 72% respectively across the country.

Throughout the Trust, 64% of the Year 6 cohort met national levels for reading, writing, and maths combined, compared to 59% nationally, demonstrating the Trust’s clear focus on building student excellence and achievement alongside its broader curriculum.

Both schools also saw significant progress in their Year 2 SATs this year, with 71% of pupils at Altarnun Primary and 63% of pupils at Egloskerry Primary now achieving the national levels for Maths. The numbers of children reaching expected attainment for reading and writing has also increased by nearly 10% for reading compared to 2022 results.

Outside of their impressive results, the children have been having fun on the racetrack as part of their academies’ broad and enriching extracurricular opportunities. Pupils have been celebrating their victory at the Greenpower Goblin racing ‘South West Regional event’, where Altarnun Primary raced past other participants to take home first place overall, and Egloskerry Primary walked away with multiple trophies in the eco-friendly motorsport competition.

A representative from Athena Learning Trust, said: “We are incredibly proud of not just our students’ results, but the way in which they all tackled their exams. They have shown incredible amounts of dedication and hard work in pursuing their learning, and these excellent results are truly deserved.

“At Athena Learning Trust, we have made a real effort over the past year to build on our excellent curriculum and offering, and it is so great to see how much our pupils have achieved this year as a result.

“We are so excited to continue building on this success, particularly with Launceston Primary School starting to grow, I have no doubt that all of our academies and pupils have success in their future.”
