The annual dinner of the Launceston Male Voice Choir, was recently held at Trethorne, where almost 100 guests were splendidly entertained by soloists Louise Crane and Ann Brown from Launceston Town Band.

The main guest for the evening was Mr Phil Taylor, chairman of the Federation of Cornish Male Voice Choirs, who presented Long Service Certificates to no less than six choir members.

Between them they have given over 175 years of support to various choirs. Most had sung with more than one choir as often happens when members change location.

Brothers Alan and John Short from Whitstone have 70 years between them. The other certificate recipients were very surprised on the night that their contributions had been recognised. These included John Budge from St Giles who has achieved no less than 25 years service with Launceston Choir.

At last ‘normality’ post COVID has allowed regular weekly practices to be held again.

Already the choir has numerous engagements throughout the Post’s area for both this year and next.

Later this month a ‘Taster Event’ evening will be held at Launceston Golf Club – on Wednesday, February 22, from 7.30pm.

A spokesperson added: “A real meet and greet informal evening to learn, listen and join in. All will be welcome to attend. If you enjoy music, and choral singing and would be interested to learn how enjoyable it is to be part of a choir – do come along.”
