THE children of Marhamchurch Primary School started their new academic year in style, as thanks to the excellent budgeting skills of their school governors, they arrived ready for the September term to find newly refurbished and brightly painted classrooms. Mary Tratt, teaching assistant in Class 4, was busy helping with discarding text books and furniture and couldn't help feeling that, although some of the text books were out of date for this school and the furniture was showing signs of general wear and tear, that someone else might make use of them. Mary's aunt, Doris Sleep, had been a volunteer with 'Operation Sunshine'; a charity which makes sure that everything they collect in the way of money or goods gets sent to needier countries. Mary and Lesa Richards, teaching assistant in Class 1, got together and devised a plan to put to the headteacher, Mrs Biddle, and governors of the school whereby the unwanted books and furniture could be sent to Operation Sunshine.
