A fundraiser, raising money for a young boy’s life changing prosthetic limb, has surpassed £5,000.
Jayden Henry-Poole, 10, who lives in Bude was born with Amniotic Band Syndrome, a condition in which fibrous bands of the amniotic sac get tangled around a developing fetus, resulting in his left arm not developing properly in the womb.
A fundraiser, organised by his family was set up at the end of 2022 in the hope of raising £13,000 for Jayden to have a life changing, 3D printed bionic arm, produced by Open Bionics in Bristol.
Rebecca, Jayden’s mother said that they are “really pleased to have reached over £5,000! But we still have a way to go to reach our £13,000 goal!”
The community have gotten involved to support Jayden’s cause, with themed tattoo flash sales, bingo sessions, craft fairs and more.
Despite their successes however, Jayden and his family are confident they can raise what they need to get him this vital bit of kit. A number of events have been planned to continue their efforts; Sunday, March 4, will see the Central Methodists Church in Bude become home to a children’s fun day, complete with bouncy castles, lego, hook a duck, lucky dips and more, as well as teas, coffees, sandwiches and cakes for sale.
The Barrel in Bude are having a “Landlords Birthday Bash weekend” where various events are taking place between the 26th-29th January. With performances from Cousin Jack, Posh Tops & Flip Flops, Pretty & Bold with The Beach Hutz as a support act and The Wombmates
Rebecca explained that there is plenty also in the pipe line with regard to fundraising events: “There will be a local band concert in March, which is currently being arranged and more details will follow. There will also be something happening around Easter but the details are still in the planning stage... All we can say is there will be a raffle, and raffle prize donations are most welcome!
“Woolacotts in Bude have been kind enough to put one of our donation buckets for cash donations in their shop!
“The remnant house which is along the Strand in Bude have also been kind enough to take a collection bucket too!”
Rebecca added that there is also a five night holiday up for grabs at 122 Widemotuh Fields and more can be found on their Facebook page: “We can’t thank everyone enough for all of the help, support and donations so far! And another massive thank you to Paulie, Phil and Steph at BlackStar Tattoo Studio in Bude for raising such a large amount for us!
“We appreciate every bit of help given and cannot wait to reach our goal so we can get Jayden his Hero Arm! Please if you have facebook don’t forget to follow JaydensHeroArm page and take a look on google for Jayden’s Hero Arm Go Fund Me! Thank you so much!”
