New research has revealed that Launceston is in the top 20 areas across the country where women are most likely to pass their theory test.
The study by insurance experts at Howden Insurance analysed GOV.UK data from April to September 2024 on the female and male pass rates for each available driving theory test centre, where there were at least 100 performed tests.
According to the data, women are more likely to pass their driving theory tests than men.
Out of the 157 driving theory test centres included in the study, females have a higher pass rate at 148 centres, equating to 94 per cent.
Across the nation, only nine test centres had a higher test rate for men, however this isn’t the case in Launceston, where women achieved a 54.57 per cent pass rate, more than 10 per cent higher than their male counterparts who only scored 43.66 per cent.
Between April 2024 and September 2024, Launceston saw 328 female test takers, with 179 of those passing.
However, the boys didn’t fare quite as well. The male pass rate was the eighty-third highest in the UK, sitting at 43.66 per cent. This is based on 186 male candidates passing out of 426.
Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson from Howden Insurance, said: “The data reveals that female success is highest in Scotland and southern England, with these regions dominating the top 10, while the chance of females passing their driving theory test decreases in Wales, the Midlands, and northern England.”
