THE Conservative MP for North Cornwall, Scott Mann, resigned his Cornwall Council seat on Tuesday.

Mr Mann represented the Wadebridge West ward on the council since 2009, and represented the ward on North Cornwall District Council prior to the move to a unitary authority.

He formally resigned his council seat at a meeting of Cornwall Council on Tuesday.

He told the Post: “It has been a pleasure to serve Wadebridge for the last eight years on both North Cornwall District Council and on Cornwall Council.

“I knew that doing both roles was only an interim arrangement once I had tied up my commitments I made to the town’s residents.

“I made it clear to residents that I would endeavour to find a solution to their parking problems, and I planned to use a highways budget that was subsequently withdrawn after the election. Wadebridge is now part of a county-wide parking review and it seems fit to step aside now.

“Wadebridge has flourished over the last ten years and I hope that my work has played a small part in that.

“Wadebridge is my home town and it is a fantastic place, with amazing people. I have been honoured to represent it over the years.

“I wish to thank the people of Wadebridge who have supported me as their councillor, and I will continue to support them in my role as their Member of Parliament.”

At Tuesday’s meeting of Cornwall Council, Mr Mann said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here on this council. Everyone always made me feel very welcome.”

Mr Mann ‘singled out’ some councillors he wished to express thanks to, including the member for Stoke Climsland Cllr Neil Burden. Mr Mann said: “I spent a huge amount of time with you on North Cornwall District Council (NCDC). You showed me the ropes, along with Graham Facks-Martin.”

Mr Mann said he was ‘grateful for the support’ of Mebyon Kernow Cornwall Councillor for Callington Andrew Long: “Although we are probably very different in terms of our political outlook we both want to stand up for Cornwall,” Mr Mann said.

He also expressed his thanks and gratitude to Cllrs Rowe, Wallis and Ferguson, and to the officers on NCDC and Cornwall Council, and extended his congratulations to Gemma Massey, the recently elected Liberal Democrat Cornwall Councillor for Launceston Central.
