A NEW national retailer is set to open in Launceston this week.
Following the closure of the town’s Poundland store, residents have been keenly awaiting the next retail arrival, and this week is finally set to usher it in, as leading discount retailer Poundstretcher is set to bring the bargains back to Launceston.
In October 2025, it was announced that Launceston’s Poundland branch was among the 57 stores set to close nationally, with the retailer officially closing its doors on November 29.
Now, seven months on, Poundstretcher is set to re-open the former Poundland store on the Launceston Retail Park on Friday, June 12.
The organisation says that the opening will create up to 15 new jobs for the local community and in order to celebrate its grand opening, the first 100 customers through the doors will get a free goody bag.
The new store, which spans more than 5,000sq ft will feature a variety of branded and non-branded bargains, housing products across a range of departments.
From clothing, DIY, gardening, health and beauty, home décor, snacks, storage, pet, sweets and drinks, the store is hopeful that there will be something for everyone.
Andy Atkinson, chief executive officer of Poundstretcher, has said that the opening of the new store hopes to help local residents deal with the ongoing economic pressures putting a strain on household budgets.
He said: “Household budgets remain under pressure, so we are committed to expanding our store network and making it easier for even more people to access great products at great prices. We’re thrilled to be opening in Launceston and can’t wait to welcome shoppers through the doors on June 12.”
