The Helstone Green boulders will stay — and that’s official. After a lengthy debate at the meeting of Camelford Town Council, when a considerable number of members of the public turned up, it was decided that the controversial boulders should stay. The clerk, Mr Ron Hart, read out details of two past petitions, one with overall support for the curb on parking on the green and the second, which wanted a grass-crete strip and boulders to stop encroachment of vehicles on to the green.
Bude Rotary saw seventeen teams enter for the annual rotary youth speaks competition held recently at Budehaven School. The event was organised by Rtn John Ward, vocational committee chairman.
Angel is back: The Friends of Lawrence House Museum in Launceston were delighted to have been able to purchase the carved angel, shown in a recent ‘Post’ article ‘Events celebrate the history of Launceston Priory’ for the museum, where it will now be displayed and enhanced with the model of the Priory made by Arthur Wills, and so will join other artefacts already on show.

Four pigs died in a bard fire at Poldhu Farm, Five Lanes, last Sunday. De-horning of calves came to an abrupt halt at Thorne Farm, Thornemoor, Broadwood, last Wednesday, when a gas bottle caught alight, but did not explode. there were two gorse fires on Laneast Down and grass fires at Egloskerry and Chaple Park. All the fires were attended by crews from Launceston.
Anyone for a forest? A half day seminar to discuss the Forestry Commission’s broadleaved woodland grant scheme will have Tregeare Estate, Egloskerry as its focus.

Presentation of Special Constabulary long service awards were made at Holsworthy to Spec Cons W M Hingston, R S Ham and L G Heard by Chief Supt J D Cornwall.
Miss Linda Blake won the Miss Tavern competition at The Westgate Inn, Launceston. Linda works for her father at Rainbow Nurseries, Poundstock. The other entrants were Maria Robinson, of Launceston, Jenny Stidwell, of Launceston, and Jane Brodribb, of Lewannick.
Douglas Mounce, of Launceston, will next Monday and Tuesday be presenting the BBC Plymouth radio programme ‘Morning Sou’West’ while regular presenter David Rodgers is on holiday.
Mrs K Harris awoke just before midnight to find a car parked on her sloping flower bed with the roof of the car resting against the conservatory of Mrs Harris’ home at Cherricote, Whitstone. The driver was uninjured.
Paul Tilzey and his wife Mary were both taken to Freedom Hospital, Plymouth, on Tuesday. Paul had a plate put in his broken arm — while Mary gave birth to twin girls.

John Gliddon, aged 19, of 32, Glebeland, Holsworthy, was on of eight naval ratings to complete a 66-mile walk around the Island of Malta.
Marion Elderfield, aged 15, patrol leader of the Blackbirds, 1st Bude Guides, received her first class and alround cords from Miss W Watkins, Divisional Commissioner.
Callington is going to lose one of its two Methodist Chapels. The quarterly meeting of the Circuit overwhelmingly approved a decision to keep the doors of West End open and to close Launceston Road.
Holsworthy Rural Council agreed to rent increases which will range from 2s 4d a week at Milton Damerel (Beacon) to 8s 11d a week at Sutcome (Square Park).
PC Dave Boyling, received a rod for the heaviest bass caught at Bude from Mr M Scown, of Weys, who donate this prize each year.

Following a car crash near Fraddon on Monday, Lady Diana Abdy of Newton Ferrers, Callington, and her son Mr Valentine Abdy, aged 18, were rushed to the Royal Cornwall Infirmary, Truro, seriously injured. Lady Diana’s car was in collision with a lorry and was almost completely wrecked.

It is does, don’t forget that you can borrow a really good book from Smith and Son’s library in Church Street, Launceston. They’ve a splendid selection at 6d a week (only 3d if the book happens to be one of the less recent ones). The annual sale of horses at Holsworthy cattle market on Wednesday attracted an entry of 105. The auctioneers, Messrs Kivell and Sons, report cart horses to 51 gns, cobs 45 gns, riding ponies thirty five and a half guineas.
The dedication of the new “Victory” bell, which completes the peal of six, took place at Tintagel Parish Church on Saturday.
The paying of 70s per week to prisoners of war was described as an insult to their own men at a meeting of Launceston Farmers’ Union.
A site had been selected for a Victory Hall for Holsworthy and a target of £10,000 is to be aimed at. The site is of three acres in Penhale’s Field, adjoining the Park.

Following an action in the Chancery Division, Bude-Stratton Urban Council have decided to go ahead with their proposed car park at Summerleaze and to pay £375 to a local woman who had claimed that sum in respect of the restrictive covenant governing her property and Summerleaze Down.
St Breward Football Club’s new grandstand was opened before the game with St Teath.
Broadwoodwidger Rural Council decided on Tuesday to increase the salary of their medical officer, Dr Saunders, from £20 to £40 a year with £7 for expenses.

Many farmers attended the meeting at the Arscott Arms, Chapmanswell on Monday when it was decided that a periodical auction shall be held there. Messrs J Kittow and Sons, Launceston, will be the auctioneers.
Miss Mildred Mills of Camelford Station won the silver cup offered in a series of whist drives at Otterham. The runner-up was Miss Isabel Hancock.
The bill to fix a flat rate of 30s a week as wages for agricultural workers was defeated in the House of Lords on Thursday.
A girl found lying unconscious by the roadside between Congdon Shop and Lewannick is now in Launceston Hospital and is still too ill to give any account of her mishap. She has a fractured collar bone and fractured skull.
