WEEK St Mary Revel was another great community event, held indoors for the most part this year due to another poor weather forecast.

The harvest queen, Jade Luxton, and her maid of honour, twin sister Chloe, travelled on a harvest themed float from one end of the village to the other, accompanied by attendants Lila Johns and Madison Johns, and page boy Rory Sachs.

The procession was led by the Rev Tony Windross and Mrs Pat Windross, closely followed by Launceston Town Band.

Then came the harvest queen’s float the 2016 queen’s attendants, the citizen of the year, Mrs Joyce Orchard, driven by Mr Francis Rowe in his open-topped car, and finally the assembled flags, banners and fancy dress entrants. They all made a fine sight in the autumn sunshine.

At the church, the rector introduced the harvest queen’s party, and then called on the retiring citizen of the year, Mr Len Davies, to present the citizen of the year cup to Mrs Joyce Orchard, who had been chosen by nominations from the community.

Her citation spoke of her dedication to making people feel welcome and valued in her quiet and unassuming way, her many years of membership of the WI and her lifelong commitment to the Methodist Church and village community.

Mrs Orchard thanked the village for the honour and was then asked to crown the new harvest queen.

The ceremony ended with a hymn, accompanied by Mrs Isabel Colwill at the organ, and photographs, after which the entire procession retired to the parish hall for the revel fair.

Held indoors this year, the fair itself went with a swing and soon everyone set off to the Methodist Church where a fine tea was provided from the many gifts, willingly given by members of the community.

Thanks were extended to all who contributed in any way to a most successful and enjoyable day.
