Bude and Stratton Branch of the Royal British Legion recently held a presentation evening at their Burn View Headquarters. The chairman, Brian Parrott welcomed award winners and guests to the well attended event. He gave a warm welcome to Elizabeth Sanders, the RBL's Community Fundraiser for Cornwall, who had travelled from Truro, with her husband and son, to present the awards. He handed over to Jean Riding, Poppy Appeal Organiser for Bude and Stratton branch, who compered the presentations, made to Poppy Appeal collectors. Elizabeth Sanders gave a short talk on the aims and objectives of the appeal and said how pleased she was to visit Bude and Stratton branch premises. The awards made were: a 40-year bar to Mrs Margaret Frost; a 15-year badge to Mr Leslie Cornish; Certificate of Achievement to Bude 41 Platoon Army Cadet Force; a special certificate and letter of congratulations to Mr Geoff Gibbs, who raised a staggering £12,113 between 2002 and 2008; Mrs Victoria Gittens was unfortunately unable to attend to receive her 15-year brooch. At the close of the meeting light refreshments were enjoyed and the conversation was mostly on the subject of the RBL and the forthcoming Poppy Appeal.
