NORTH Cornwall students have put on their politics hats as they vote for their new school councillors.

Pupils at Egloskerry Primary School have been voting this term for their new school council members. The children were able to vote for their peers, and a new pupil led school council has now been elected. They will represent their classmates, share ideas and help make Egloskerry an even better place to learn and grow.

The group is already buzzing with ideas and determined to make this academic year the best one yet. Their inaugural meeting was all about Children in Need Day fundraising ideas and some exciting plans are now underway.

The election process for the school council underscores the children' s learning in their personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) lessons about the British value of democracy, as pupils get to experience the importance of having their voices heard.

A spokesperson for the school said: “At Egloskerry Primary School pupils are inspired by discovery, creativity, and a sense of adventure, gaining access to a world of opportunities through their innovative curriculum and outstanding personal development programs. We aim for every child to delight in life experiences and achievements, growing into well-rounded individuals with a love of learning, a breadth of interests, and the adaptability to thrive in a fast-changing world.”

Lynsey Slater, principal at Egloskerry Primary School added: “Our new pupil led school council is a fantastic opportunity for children to have their voices heard and make a real difference in our school community. The election process not only teaches them about democracy, but also inspires creativity, responsibility, and teamwork. We are excited to see their ideas in action, from fundraising for Children in Need to initiatives that will make this year the best yet for everyone at Egloskerry.”
