On Tuesday, December 2 Bude Rotary Club hosted around 150 senior citizens at the Falcon Hotel for afternoon tea, special carols by the children from St Petroc's School and, finally, carol singing led by Rotarian Nick Chadd.
Rotarian Nigel Buse arranged everything, including transport to and from the venue.
Friday, December 5 saw the arrival of Santa Claus in the town on Victorian Night. He was paraded from the Strand, up Belle Vue and down Queen Street to his Grotto, set up by Brooks Garden Centre and prepared by Rotarians. Around 150 children met him personally, and received a present. Rotarian Cliff Surgeoner made all the arrangements.
On Monday, December 8, Rotarians held their Christmas dinner at the Falcon Hotel along with many guests. With Bude Town Band, they enjoyed carols after a superb meal with excellent fellowship.
Also annual awards were made: The Eric Chadd Award, to recognise a local person for his or her service to the community, was awarded to Margaret Frost from Northcott Mouth for the tremendous help she has given to local clubs and charities over many years.
Also, Bude Sport Personality of the Year was inaugurated by the President, Mike Howard. The first recipient was Craig Simpson who has given an enormous amount of time and trouble at unsociable hours in very poor weather to help and encourage the local youth in sport.
