PEOPLE were deliberating whether it was going to happen, but the Post area finally experienced wintry conditions, causing chaos on the main roads, town centres and countryside.

Snow hit around lunchtime yesterday (Thursday), with the white stuff coming in fast. A number of people were left stranded on the main roads, including the A30, and staff and students were forced to spend the night at Callywith College, with kind donations of supplies from Asda in Bodmin.

Many people opened up their homes and businesses to those left stranded, offering warm drinks, food, and even a place to sleep in some cases. Local farmers and people with 4x4s came to the aid of people in the countryside, showing the level of community spirit across the area. People continued to provide updates on the dangerous conditions of the roads across community Facebook pages, with a series of astonishing photos emerging from the A30. Some were thought to have been stranded for up to six hours or more. One regular Launceston-Liskeard commuter on his way back to Falmouth reported: "It took five hours to get home last night (Thursday) as the A30 was difficult due to the heavy volume of traffic, conditions and abandoned cars. There was a total whiteout at one point with traffic at a standstill and then, thankfully, it eased off leaving slush and ice. The speed at which the snow came in and the volume that fell in such a short time was incredible."

Many schools have since closed, with emergency services urging people to take care on the roads, only travel when necessary and check up on vulnerable or elderly neighbours.
