As part of South Petherwin’s celebrations to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a parish service was held in South Petherwin Methodist Church on Sunday morning, June 5.

It had been beautifully decorated with red, white and blue floral arrangements and other fitting adornment.

The service was led by Ann Foster and included two of the Queen’s favourite hymns, The Church is One Foundation and Praise My Soul the King of Heaven. The lesson from Acts 2: 1-4, 14, 29-39 was read by Michael Shellswell. The celebration of Pentecost Sunday was also incorporated in the service, when the outpouring of The Holy Spirit as Jesus ascended into heaven is celebrated.

Ann went on to say that the Queen was anointed with oil at her coronation and throughout her life been conscious of the Holy Spirit being with her. So they wanted to celebrate her life, her pilgrimage of faith on this special Sunday.

The offering was taken for the Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal and amounted to £200. The service concluded with the National Anthem.
