THE Stratton Community Hospital Fete was held on Saturday week despite the competition of the weather.
The fete was opened by Kevin Baber, managing director of the Community Health Services, in a brief dry spell of weather. He welcomed everyone and spoke of the forthcoming improvements to the
hospital.
In view of the very inclement weather the various stalls and have-a-go challenges had to be accommodated in the physiotherapy department and the out patient waiting room, whilst staff held a raffle of items, most of which had been donated by local businesses.
The gentlemen manning the plant stall and some of the games braved the rain to stay outside, but finally looked as if they too had been in the paddling pool with the fish being fished for! Even the ice cream bicycle had to be located indoors.
Fortunately, there were gazebos set up where cream teas could be enjoyed despite the rain, and the Bude Town Band continued to entertain under a gazebo.
Candy Baker, the chairman of the League of Friends, said: "Once again, the public told their own story by their attendance and helping us to raise a profit of a little over £1,000.
"The support of the public is vital if we are going to be able to raise the substantial sum which the League of Friends has committed to, in order to see improvements to our treasured
hospital."
She asked for continued support for future events and thanked the staff for their kindness and care of all who cross their path.
