A VILLAGE post office is expected to be closed for a short period to enable refurbishment to take place.
St Teath Post Office will close temporarily for building work to take place, with the closure required to enable the works to be undertaken safely.
The closure comes as the operators of the store seek permission to sell alcohol from the premises.
An application by Muresh Maher and Lila Bhai Maher seeks to provide sale by retail of alcohol between the hours of 7am and 9pm, seven days a week, for consumption off the premises.
Cllr David Garrigan, the Cornwall Council member for the area, said: “The Post Office have asked me to share that St Teath Post Office will be closing temporarily for building work, to make the branch safe and ready for the future. The Post Office will stay closed while the refurbishment is carried out. As soon as there’s a confirmed reopening date, it will be displayed at the branch.”
A spokesperson for the Post Office said: “Due to extensive building work at the above location, the branch will need to close. The safety of our customers is of paramount importance to us, therefore, to allow for the building work to take place, it will be necessary for the service to close. The service is scheduled to re-open after the repairs.
“The safety of our customers is of paramount importance to us, therefore it will be necessary for the service to remain closed while the building work takes place. As soon as we have a confirmed reopening date, posters will be displayed in branch to let customers know.
“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience the closure may cause. We hope that our customers will continue to use the Post Office.”
The nearest alternative post offices are located in St Tudy and Camelford.
