MORE than 200 people packed into Kilkhampton's Grenville Rooms on Monday to voice concerns over an application to bring a Co-op food store to the village. The Co-operative Group wants to set up a new store in the premises previously occupied by bespoke kitchen suppliers Simply Wood. The meeting began with an impassioned speech read by Kerry Garrett on behalf of the independent businesses in the village, urging the parish council to take their concerns into consideration. They were summarised as: traffic, parking and access; the effects on the local community; and the long term effects of the proposed development on this village. She said: "In terms of traffic, parking and access, Kilkhampton is located on the A39, one of the three main spine roads into Cornwall, which is already seriously congested and has been the subject of numerous discussions in the past, to the extent of considering a bypass."
