KIVELLS Holsworthy auction room on Tuesday, October 24 was packed to the rafters with eager bidders and the Internet had over 300 worldwide bidders registered.

The Internet bidders included three from China, who vied with bidders in the UK to take the Chinese five-inch diameter silver and enamel bowl to a fantastic winning bid of £1,800.

Other silver items included circular trays at £185 and £260, a Liberty napkin ring at £145, a christening mug at £150, a cream jug at £100 and a Chinese silver three-piece condiment set at £165.

Eighty lots of jewellery sold well, with a nine carat gold watch chain selling at £470, a nine carat gold padlock bracelet at £270, an amber bead necklace at £230 and an 18 carat etched band ring at £170 being the pick of the bunch.

Among a selection of watches, an 18 carat gold pocket watch sold at £400, a nine carat gold cased Rotary wristwatch at £170 and another 18 carat gold watch at £190.

An enamel sign from Bideford, advertising Ediswan light bulbs, sold for £480, seven other enamel signs ranged from £75 to £220 and five lots of golf clubs, some with wooden shafts, sold to a buyer from Sussex for £650.

In the furniture section, an oak longcase clock sold for £720, a mahogany bachelors chest at £150, an oak table top spice cabinet for £500, a Cadbury shop display cabinet at £420, an oak office chair at £100 and a Brooks cotton reel chest at £230.

Collectables included three old Bude photographs at £130, a Swiss cyclinder music box at £175, a symphonion music box at £110, servants bell box at £190, a barograph at £230, a violin for £175, a pair of Chinese bound feet slippers at £60, a pair of twist stem wine glasses at £160 and a small Monart glass beaker at £75.
