A YOUNG Launceston chef has been cooking up a storm after joining some of the best gastronomists in the country.

Launceston College student, Harry got a peak inside one of the country’s top restaurants after he had the opportunity to learn from the best when he joined Michael Caines MBE in his kitchens at the one Michelin star venue Lympstone Manor.

Michael, who has been the holder of two Michelin stars for 18 consecutive years, has now been awarded a Michelin star for Lympstone Manor just six months after opening. Over the past 22 years, Michael has gained a global reputation for his distinctive ‘Terroir Cuisine’, utilising the finest local and regional produce and ingredients.

During a day of work experience, Harry met the chef and his team, gaining firsthand insight into the precision, teamwork, and dedication required in a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Lympstone Manor, a five-star country house overlooking the Exe Estuary, is Michael’s personal vision and even produces wine from its own vineyard.

A spokesperson from Launceston College said: “Launceston has a strong focus on giving students hands-on opportunities to explore careers, build confidence, and make a positive impact both in school and the wider community. Its careers programme starts early, offering real-world work experience and guidance that help students discover their skills and ambitions, just as Harry did at Lympstone Manor.”

Mr Matthew Thompson, principal at Launceston College, added: “It is fantastic to see students like Harry apply what they learn in school to the real world. His passion for cooking is inspiring. Experiences like this build confidence, develop practical skills, and help students explore their future paths. We look forward to seeing Harry continue to dream big, and we are confident he has a bright future ahead.”
