ON A slightly overcast and windy day, Stratton Bowling Club opened their green for the new season on Saturday, April 13.

They were joined by two new members Tim Woodcock and Steve Griffin, while the Post’s sports reporter David Sillifant was invited to bowl the first wood of the season and did a much better job of it than at Dunheved seven days earlier.

The afternoon began with the traditional spider which was won by Daphne Claydon.

The rest of the afternoon was then taken up by a competition which saw Gerald Maynard finish third with +26, Roger Thorne second with +27 and Vince Mancuso first with an incredible +32. After a lovely tea supplied by the members, ladies captain Sandra Parker thanked everyone who had helped with the day.

Members were then also reminded to try and get members of the public to attend Stratton Bowling Club’s Open Day on Sunday, May 5, when free coaching will be available.
