FOLLOWING on from their recent success in last years Houldsworth Cup final, the Bude tennis team consisting of Viv Cobner, Shannon Sandy, Joe Reeve and Matt Bosustow won a very close winter league final earlier in the month.

After winning Division One East, the team went on to play Truro, the winners of Division 1 West in the final held at Wadebridge. Reeve and Bosustow won their men’s match comfortably 6-3, 6-0 against Chris Waters and Matt Roberts before Cobner and Sandy lost a tough ladies match 7-6, 7-6 against Helen Wright and Emily Wicks.

With one win each, the final was all to play for in the two mixed matches. Shannon and Joe lost on a match tie-break 10-7 against Chris and Emily, but Viv and came from a set down to beat Helen Wright and Matt Roberts in a match tie-break. This meant that it was five-all in sets involving a count back of games won.

Bude had won the most games and therefore the match and the Winter League trophy.

Special thanks were expressed to Anj Wilkinson, Morag Reeve, Ann Mason, Andrew Troop and Gary Bickle who, although they did not compete in the final, played for the team in the earlier matches.
