Callington Town 2
Godolphin Atlantic 0
SECOND-hALF goals from Elliott Rendle and Sam Marker gave Cally just their second home win of the season as they did the double over their fellow strugglers at Ginsters Marsh.
The visitors defended resolutely for an hour before Rendle struck and as they pushed forward for an equaliser, Marker was on hand to double their lead and leapfrog their Newquay-based visitors into 15th in the table.
Cally go into Friday’s derby at home to title favourites Tavistock (3pm) in a much better frame of mind.
Torpoint Athletic 6
ANOTHER disappointing defeat for Launceston as bogey team Torpoint, including five former Pennygillam regulars, took the points in convincing fashion.
Still missing the influential Callum Watson in midfield, Mike Walton’s Clarets were also short of forward options. However the first half-hour was even and gave no indication of the goal glut to follow.
John Heveren opened the scoring from close range, after Launceston keeper Josh Colwill had done well to smother the original shot, before an unfortunate George Birkbeck own goal left the Clarets with a mountain to climb.
Luke Cloke made it 3-0 with a fine 53rd minute effort, following which things went from bad to worse. Launceston’s Mike Burke was shown a red card for an off-the-ball incident and the task, already difficult, became impossible.
Rhys Walton briefly lifted the gloom with an excellent effort from outside the penalty area which reduced the deficit to two goals. But Torpoint went for the jugular and the pain was increased when the next two goals both came from players who had been at Launceston earlier this season.
Lewis Young made it 4-1 before the excellent Ruben Kane added a fifth.
One final insult was added to injury in the 85th minute when Plymouth Parkway striker Adam Carter, dual-registered with Torpoint, came off the bench to thrash an unstoppable drive past Colwill and make the final score 6-1.
The Clarets travel to high-flying Exmouth Town on Saturday looking for a marked change of fortune.
Division One (West)
Bude Town 0
Mousehole 2
BUDE put up a spirited and hard working performance but were ultimately edged out by a little more quality on show from the away side at the Broadclose Park.
Mousehole, who included former Torquay United manager Kevin Nicholson in their starting 11, started the brighter of the two sides and squandered a couple of early chances, however once Bude got into the game they illustrated some excellent battling qualities.
The game was goalless at half-time and indeed remained that way until the hour mark, and despite Mousehole’s possession they failed to create any clearcut opportunities.
But the deadlock was eventually broken when the away side were awarded a penalty for what looked a pretty innocuous collision.
The spot kick was dispatched by Paulo Sousa, and the feeling was Mousehole might then push on. But Bude repelled that thought and created their best chance of the game when a Ruan Tape miscued shot was met by Tommy Statton at the back post but he couldn’t direct the header and his effort went over from eight yards.
Mousehole killed the game off in the 80th minute when a scramble in the box fell to prolific former Ludgvan frontman Gerens James, who calmly slotted it home from ten yards.
Bude will be bouyed by a spirited display against a decent side along with the return of defender Chris Ward who played his first game for nine months following a broken leg.
The Seasiders, who remain second bottom, have a must-win clash at home to bottom side Ludgvan on Saturday (2.15pm).
