TORRENTIAL rain might have put pay to all but a handful of football fixtures in Devon and Cornwall on Saturday, but things should be back to normal this weekend starting with tomorrow night’s clash between Camelford and Sticker at Trefrew Park in Kitchen Kit South West Peninsula League Premier West.

By the time they kick-off at 7.30pm it will have been 11 days since the Camels have last played, a 2-1 victory over St Dennis, which meant they maintained their position of eighth.

Launceston, who have struggled to consistently string results together since the return of Gary Jeffery in the summer beat fellow Post area club Holsworthy 1-0 in the second-round of the Walter C Parson Funeral Directors League Cup on Tuesday night, welcome St Blazey to Pennygillam on Saturday.

The Green and Blacks are likely to include former Clarets Matt Thackeray and Jordan Walton in their squad.

Improving Callington Town enjoyed back-to-back victories over Godolphin and Liskeard before slipping to a 4-1 defeat at home to Newquay on Tuesday night. They make the long trip to Gala Parc to tackle Porthleven looking to continue to move away from danger.

In Premier East, Holsworthy welcome Sidmouth Town to Upcott Field. The Magpies defeated Torridgeside 3-2 last Tuesday night thanks to Harry Stevens’ brace and Ollie Kenneally’s strike.

They had no game scheduled at the weekend.

St Piran League outfit Morwenstow saw their Kernow Stone League Cup first-round tie at Liskeard Athletic called off at the weekend. Their league game at home to St Austell Reserves has now been moved so that the Liskeard game can be played this Saturday.

Elsewhere, Bude Town and Callington Town are both on the road, at Sticker Reserves and Polperro respectively.

Struggling St Teath have a big game at second bottom St Blazey Reserves on Saturday. Both sides have just three points to their name. North Petherwin will look to build on their recent 5-1 win over Newquay when they host St Stephen at Petherwin Park.

Just two of the 11 Post area clubs scheduled to be involved in the Cornwall Junior Cup at the weekend managed to get their fixtures played, with the rest now scheduled for Saturday.

Duchy Premier outfit St Merryn eased past Duchy Three side Delabole United 4-0, while Duchy Two leaders Southgate Seniors saw off Grampound from the league below, 7-1, at the Launceston College Playing Fields. Mark Wilson scored a hat-trick with Anthony Coles, Josh Barron, Liam Cairns and Lewis Halliday also on target for Adam Scott’s side.

The Cornwall Junior Cup ties mean that although most Duchy League games are cancelled, there are still seven games scheduled involving Post area clubs.

Ashwater and Shebbear United Reserves have seen their second-round ties in the Devon Intermediate Cup postponed for the last three weeks. They will try again against Hartland Clovelly Reserves and Culm United Reserves respectively. Both teams are at home.

The third-round ties also gets underway with Duchy One side Lifton making the long trip to Exmouth Spartans Reserves.

North Devon League Senior Division sides Holsworthy Reserves and Shebbear United are the last Post area clubs standing in the Devon Senior Cup, and both are in third-round action this weekend.

Holsworthy host Exmouth Spartans and Shebbear go to Macron Devon and Exeter Division Four outfit Sampford Peverell, which isn’t far from Tiverton.

Halwill first team travel to Clyst Valley Reserves in Devon and Exeter League Division Two while Halwill Reserves are in Bill Slee Cup action at home to Division Four high-flyers Devon Yeoman.

In North Devon, the League Cup competitions for each division, which were postponed due to the weather on Saturday, will be played.

Premier side Bradworthy go to Torridgeside Reserves while Senior Division Bridgerule travel to Combe Martin in the Combe Martin Cup.

Morwenstow Reserves welcome Braunton Fourths and Bridgerule Reserves entertain league leaders Eastside in the The Bill Smale Cup for Intermediate Two sides.

Bradworthy host Braunton Fifths in the Inter 3 League Cup.
