SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)
Sticker 0 Holsworthy 1
SKIPPER Jedd Peschke grabbed a second half winner as Holsworthy made it eight games unbeaten to start the season with a 1-0 success at mid-table Sticker on Saturday.
The giant defender headed home Gavin Carter’s long throw to ensure they remain third, behind leaders Liskeard Athletic and Callington Town.
Magpies boss Kevin Squire shifted the pack around following Wednesday night’s 2-1 victory at home to Dobwalls which came via goals from Gavin Carter and Chris Wildern as the available-again Elis Aldrich was deployed in an attacking midfield role, while Ben Grech was handed a first start of the season at wing-back.
With a strong wind which affected the game throughout, the visitors played against the elements in the first half, restricting to Sticker to just a series of long-range shots, corners and free-kicks, all of which were dealt with comfortably.
Joe Barker had Holsworthy’s best chance, drawing a decent stop out of Harry Ashton.
Holsworthy knew they could attack more in the second half, and saw Ben Sharpe shoot wide in a one-on-one situation.
But they got their goal on the hour and in the final half hour had further chances, but saw Sharpe twice, and sub Chris Wildern not hit the target when well-placed.
Reflecting on the game, Squire told the Post: “It’s been a really good week.
“On Wednesday we were nowhere near our best and still ground out a result, and yesterday against a difficult team, we again found a way to win.”
Holsworthy are back in action on September 20 when they visit Liskeard (3pm).
